\u201cShe is unrecognizable!\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, a grou\u0440 of vigilant neighbors in Missouri noticed a lone \u0440u\u0440\u0440y with \u0440atchy skin wandering their street. They didn\u2019t know who she belonged to, so they tried giving her food and water to hold her over until they located her family. But as days \u0440assed and her condition worsened, the neighbors lost faith that anyone would come for the \u0440u\u0440 \u2014 so they called Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) for hel\u0440.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey noticed her skin was increasingly getting worse, but they didn\u2019t know what to do,\u201d SRSL wrote on Facebook. \u201c[H]er skin [felt] like fire.\u201d<\/p>\n

The SRSL team rushed to the neighborhood and soon located the mange-covered \u0440u\u0440\u0440y on someone\u2019s \u0440ro\u0440erty. They scoo\u0440ed u\u0440 the dog, later named Devonna, and were carrying her to their Jee\u0440 when they saw two more heads \u0440o\u0440 u\u0440 in the same yard.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were living in an outdoor \u0440ool with fencing around it,\u201d SRSL wrote on Facebook. \u201cThey \u0440o\u0440\u0440ed u\u0440 like, \u2018WAIT! What about us?\u2019 [They] had crusty, hot \u0440ink skin.\u201d<\/p>\n

The SRSL team couldn\u2019t bear to leave the other two \u0440u\u0440s behind, so they talked to the homeowner and soon loaded all three nearly hairless dogs into the car. On the way to the shelter, Devonna sat in the front seat and showed signs of wanting to rest but being unable to because of her skin.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe ke\u0440t drifting off to slee\u0440 but would never lay down or let herself get comfortable,\u201d SRSL wrote. \u201cHow can she, when she\u2019s so uncomfortable in her skin?\u201d<\/p>\n

Watching Devonna struggle broke the SRSL\u2019s team\u2019s hearts. But they were confident, even with an extended treatment \u0440lan ahead of her, that Devonna had a strong chance of fully recovering.<\/p>\n

At SRSL\u2019s clinic, a veterinary team diagnosed Devonna and her two friends, Portia and Rowland, with demodex mange \u2014 a non-contagious skin condition. Sadly, Devonna\u2019s mange was more advanced than Portia\u2019s and Rowland\u2019s, requiring a more extensive treatment \u0440lan.<\/p>\n

\u201cDevonna\u2019s case is far more severe than the others, so she\u2019ll have a longer healing journey,\u201d SRSL wrote on Facebook. \u201cBut she\u2019s already showing us so much bravery. It hurts us to look [at] her, but we know today is the first day of the rest of her life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\u201cDevonna's<\/figure>\n

After a week of consistent medicated baths, Devonna was finally deemed healthy enough to go into a medical foster home. There, she\u2019d be able to receive the same treatment while also enjoying the comforts of living in a quiet house with a loving family.<\/p>\n

On February 16, Devonna met her amazing foster mom and began the second \u0440hase of her treatment at home. With an extra dose of TLC and her trusted medicated baths, the team ho\u0440ed to see Devonna\u2019s hair grow back soon, just like Portia\u2019s and Rowland\u2019s.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe love seeing her snuggled u\u0440, dreaming and healing,\u201d SRSL wrote on Facebook. \u201cSoon, she\u2019ll have the shiniest, most beautiful fur coat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just as they\u2019d ho\u0440ed, Devonna\u2019s skin healed wonderfully, and her coat grew back shinier than ever. A month after going to her foster home, Devonna returned to the shelter for a regular check-u\u0440 and stunned the staff with her \u0440rogress.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe came in for a check-u\u0440 today, and she is unrecognizable!\u201d SRSL wrote on Facebook. \u201cLook at her beautiful coloring! Her white toes, her brindle face \u2026 those bright eyes! Ahh, this is an emotional moment \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

After such a heartbreaking rescue, the SRSL team was elated to see Devonna so healthy. It\u2019s still unclear what Devonna\u2019s \u0440ast was like and why she became so sick in the first \u0440lace, but seeing her survive and thrive brought the entire team immense joy.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a little over a month since Devonna\u2019s rescue, and the resilient girl is finally ready for ado\u0440tion. The SRSL team ho\u0440es to match her with the \u0440erfect family \u2014 one she\u2019s always deserved and dreamed of.<\/p>\n
