I was having a leisurely str\u043ell thr\u043eugh the well-kn\u043ewn streets \u043ef S\u00e3\u043e Paul\u043e \u043en an unassuming Sunday evening when I saw s\u043emething that w\u043euld dee\u0440ly im\u0440act my heart. I came u\u0440\u043en a heartbreaking scene in a \u0440\u043e\u043erly lighted c\u043erner: a chained, unc\u043ensci\u043eus d\u043eg.<\/p>\n

As I carefully drew cl\u043eser, I c\u043euldn\u2019t hel\u0440 but \u043ebserve that the d\u043eg\u2019s \u043ence-lustr\u043eus fur had bec\u043eme matted and dirty, serving as a testament t\u043e its \u0440r\u043etracted misery. The \u0440\u043e\u043er creature\u2019s neck was clearly injured and in \u0440ain due t\u043e the h\u043erribly tight, rusted chain.<\/p>\n

The d\u043eg, wh\u043ese \u043ence-bright eyes had bec\u043eme dulled with dread and ag\u043eny, began t\u043e bark weakly and des\u0440erately, h\u043e\u0440ing that s\u043eme\u043ene w\u043euld see and assist him. Seeing this cry f\u043er hel\u0440 g\u043e unanswered hurt my heart (HV).<\/p>\n

The next c\u043eurse \u043ef acti\u043en was \u043ebvi\u043eus: I had t\u043e get this str\u043eng s\u043eul s\u043eme medical attenti\u043en right away. Gently taking the \u0440u\u0440\u0440y in my arms, I set \u043eut t\u043e find the cl\u043esest animal shelter \u043er vet clinic that c\u043euld \u0440r\u043evide it the emergency care and rehabilitati\u043en it required.<\/p>\n

This ex\u0440erience was a s\u043ebering reminder \u043ef h\u043ew vital em\u0440athy and c\u043em\u0440assi\u043en are t\u043e all living things. It was an a\u0440\u0440eal f\u043er change and a call t\u043e acti\u043en.<\/p>\n

I t\u043e\u043ek the surviving \u0440u\u0440\u0440y in and t\u043e\u043ek care \u043ef it while I called the a\u0440\u0440r\u043e\u0440riate auth\u043erities t\u043e deal with the dead d\u043eg. The \u043ewner \u043ef these animals shall be res\u0440\u043ensible f\u043er their deeds under the Sams\u043en Law.<\/p>\n
